Into the North of Zao

As our sneak peeks already revealed, this year's summer update will take you further into the abyss of corruption and terror that yawns in Zao.

Finally, it is time to so get ready to enter the north of Zao and discover what threats and challenges are waiting for you behind the Great Gate. Are you afraid of the mighty adversary and his ravaging armies? You better be! But don't despair, you won't be alone. Zalamon, the wise old lizard priest will offer you guidance. Yet, he and the resistance still need your support as well.

Explore Zao's northern region, rice terraces and mountain paths which are fully tainted by the corruption. Approach the Emperor's realm, enter his mysterious gardens and venture into the depths of his terrifying palace. Help Zalamon and the resistance to fight against the dreadful dragonkin in order to end this terrible plague once and for all. Tibians, prepare yourself to face the unspeakable ancient evil that lurks in Zao, draining all its energy to finally plunge the world into ultimate darkness. Don't let this happen! You have to be strong and determined but you can make it. You have to - for the sake of Zao, for the sake of Tibia.

But in the midst of this epic struggle to avert the looming disaster, will you still find the time to help others who are in need? Hidden in the mountains in northern Zao, a forbidden village holds its very own secret and someone may be waiting there for you.

Furthermore, sage Cael in Farmine is looking for adventurers willing to collect corrupted samples for him in Zao. No matter if you are a newcomer or already quite experienced, Cael is grateful for any assistance. And a devoted father in Edron also needs help with the birthday gifts for his four sons.

You see, there are lots of challenges coming up this summer so you better start sharpening your swords, stringing your bows and polishing your runes. Further screenshots of the new area can be found on our supported and promoted fansites as well as on our official Tibia Facebook page.

Hunting Spot of the Week of Tibia

Despite all the test server madness, we at Tibianews still try (note: try) to let the daily news flow like usual. Therefore, with a new week comes a new Featured Hunting Spot! Today, we're taking you to the hot sands of Darama. High on top of the mountain range that divides Darashia and Ankrahmun, powerful elemental of energy roam, happily testing their immense power on anyone that passes by. This energy elemental hunting ground can be quite invasive in terms of supplies, and their hits can hurt a lot, but what is Tibia without a challenge? Of course, getting there is the first step, but an easy one through the picture below. The route is illustrated by the purple line. The red box in the first picture shows where the hunting spot is located in comparison with the ground floor.

This hunting spot isn't very large and contains four floors, each with several elementals.

The first floor can be reached by levitating up, indicated by the red arrow. You will find two energy elementals here.

The second floor contains no less than five elementals! Caution is required here, as more than three of those creatures can be enough to even take down a mid-leveled knight. Luckily, three of them are located to the top north of the floor. So, if necessary, the can be avoided in most cases.

At the third floor, you will only face two energy elementals, so this can be a good place to rest between the two major floors (2nd and 4th floor).

The last floor contains four elementals. This area is rather big and offers no place or edge whatsoever where only two creatures can hit you at a time.

Useful facts about and strategies for Energy Elementals:

Energy elementals are strong against physical attacks, so can be a pain to hunt by knights.
A major setback for knights is the fact that their hits can not be avoided. Their attacks include HMM, energy explosion and a strong melee. Plus, they make frequent use of their energy attacks.
Energy elementals drop lots of gold, and useful items such as mana potions and silver amulets.
Overall, their loot is worth the effort, including Wand of Cosmic Energy, Guardian Shield, Obsidian Lance and others.
For some curious reason, these elementals also drop throwing stars. We can only speculate for its cause.

Achievements and Further New Stuff

The message has already been spread all over our promoted and supported fansites: achievements are coming to Tibia! So this summer update teaser will just provide a rough overview of what achievements are about. Further, we are going to present the rest of the new items that will be available to you ingame.

Achievements bring an exciting new dimension to Tibia. Think about them as exclusive titles your characters earn on special occasions while playing. You can collect them, show them off on your character information pages and share your successes with friends. Since achievements are worth up to 10 points each you can even compete with other players on the highscore lists! A new achievement ranking will be added there.

More than 80 achievements are available from the start. Some of them are secret so you will have to find out by yourself how to get those. Achievements are account-based which means they are assigned to all characters on the same account alike. So even if you unlock an achievement like the Bearhugger with your main character you can choose to display it on your secondary character's information page as well. The achievement points, however, are character-based of course.

Apart from achievements plenty of new items will be added to the game again. Check out the screenshot below: on the left and on the right you can see some new sprites for quest items which are already ingame. They will finally get a unique look. The bottom part of the image shows different food items including the 4 winning dishes of Jean Pierre's recipe contest from May. At the top, new equipment is presented with the brand-new jewelled backpack at centre.

If you take a close look at the character's outfit in the middle you will see that we have also adjusted the hat. It is now a bit more detailed and provided with an edge that is customisable by you in terms of colour.

Achievements and Further New Stuff

It's been spoiled in several places already, but now it's finally announced on the official Tibia website as well: the coming summer update will introduce Achievements to the game! By completing specific goals ingame, like handing out exploding cookies, braving the annihilator or hugging a bear, you'll be able to assign special titles to your character page. There are more than 80 achievements, and some of them are secret. Based on the difficulty of each achievement, you will also receive points. Through the Highscores list in the community section, you can compete with other players from your world to see who has the most achievement poins!

Besides that, a lot of new items will be added after the update. Delicious vegetables and fruit like broccoli, dragonfruit, pineapple and aubergine, and of course the new meals for Jean Pierre. There will also be new equipment and weapons added. And that's not all! Several old items will receive brand-new graphics, like Lethal Lissy's shirt and the phoenix egg.

And to conclude: after receiving lots of comments about that hat of the new Wayfarer's outfit, Jan decided to tweak it a bit. The hat is now a bit more detailed and provided with an edge that has a customisable color. You can click the picture below for a link to the original tibia.com article.

On the First Day of Testing

I met with a troubled father, named Tereban. He was obviously drunk and very reluctant to talk, but after some more drinks I managed to find out why he was so troubled. His four identical sons were going to reach adulthood soon, and each of them had chosen a different vocation. Tereman wanted to become a knight, Yelloran a paladin, Melvin a sorcerer and Vestus a druid. To celebrate them surving their adolescent years, Terebran decided to hold a smashing party and give special presents that fit their vocation. But they are so special, that certain items are required which you can't buy in any shop. And that's where he needed my help! I had to look all around Tibia for pieces of a knight's shield, a paladin's bow, a sorcerer's cape and a druid's rod.

My travels took me to Thais to battle a fierce fire-breating dragon, then further to the ice island Hrodmir, to the ape village Banuta and all the way to Zao even! Some of the items could be found a little closer to home. For example, in Edron, I had to battle a wyvern named Heoni to get his strong sinew. I managed to acquire most of the items without too much trouble. Just the spectral cloth caused some problems for me. I had to travel all the way to the Isle of Kings to search its catacombs for the cloth. After I got it, I decided to take a small detour. That way, I accidently landed inside the Queen of the Banshee quest, and got stuck between two ghosts. Luckily, thanks to the help of two brave adventurers, I did survive and returned to Tereban.

The formerly troubled father was so grateful that he gave me some of his spare money and a old smelly cape. Lucky me! I didn't get an invitation to the party though ...

About Private Statement Reports

ith the summer update, illegal private statements will be reportable by players who are part of a private conversation. In our forum, we have noticed that many players have expressed their concerns about negative consequences by this. Therefore we would like to address this issue again and point out some major advantages of the upgraded reporting system. Here are some reasons why this is a good step.

1. Better Customer Focus
The new reporting options make it a lot easier for all players to ask for help. In case of severe rule violations that affect their gameplay experience in a negative way, players are now able to make reports directly to CipSoft's inhouse customer support team.

2. Improved Customer Support
Whenever private channels were used to advertise illegal software, to spread hack links or to intimidate and harass others in the past, players could hardly do anything except using the ignore function. The new reporting system enables our players to contact us whenever they feel disturbed by a rule violating statement. With their reports the customer support team can now act and address the players' problems in a much more effective way.

3. Casual Conversations Remain Safe
In private, of course, people talk to each other in a totally different way than publicly. We don't mind casual conversations in private channels at all. Even using vulgar language among friends is fine for us as long as it is fine for your friends as well and you keep your conversations private. That means, even if private statements can be reported you will find that there is no need to change your private conversational style.

4. Ensured Privacy
When a player reports a private statement he or she just points out a possible rule violation to us. Chat logs will only be checked by a customer support member to find out whether or not the report was justified. In other words: We are not interested in what else you say there and how you say it and we will never infringe on private conversations without any reason.

Tainted by the Corruption

As we already revealed a few weeks ago, the northern region of Zao will hold tough challenges for you and on your way you will also learn more about Zao's history.

When the reign of the dragons over Zao begun, many old traditions fell out of grace and into oblivion, among them the philosopher monks who travelled the land to teach people and serve as negotiators and judges. If you are strong and brave enough to master Zao's new challenges, you may stumble upon the garbs of these dignified wayfarers and earn the right to wear their outfit with the honour that once accompanied the rank of those travelling monks. Be it the burning heat, stiff mountain air or the damp and dreary undergrounds, show all your venturing pride with these unique clothes that tell tales of exploration, danger and the grim visage of battle. Show others that you are a wayfarer, an adventurer – a hero.

In the northern region of Zao you will not only find the landscape to be even more tainted by the corruption but also its creatures. In order to give you the chance to prepare for theses vicious beasts, we want to introduce them to you today.

The brimstone bugs should not be underestimated and if giant spiders scare you, brimstone bugs will certainly give you the creeps as well. Resistant to poison, diseases and climate, their swarms are always looking for corrupted essence as well as for undead and demonic excrements to feed on. They are especially drawn to spiritually rotten things which seem to fuel several unusual magical powers of the bugs. They are cannibalistic by nature and will devour any fallen swarm member so you better not expect any mercy from them.

But the corruption in Zao comes in many different ways. So beware, adventurers! Sometimes the corruption rather affects the soul than the body and does not become apparent during a whole lifetime. Only in death these pitiful beings learn the horrid truth when their tainted souls twists their nature, refusing them the afterlife that awaited them. And so they are bound to the realm of mortals in an ethereal form, tormented by an eternal hunger and plagued by their twisted vision of the world around them. Everything that exists is a pain to them, even more if it is alive. Destruction and total oblivion seem to be the only salvation. They are in a constant state of hunger since their new ethereal body constantly burns away spiritual energy. To satiate this hunger they feed on the life force and soul energy of mortals. Sometimes, they even toy with their victims by shattering their dreams before they greedily feast on their prey.

And even the mighty draken are not immune to the massive corruption in northern Zao. Some of them have become disfigured in body and soul, a disgrace for their own kind. Being physically even more powerful than ordinary draken but easily influenced by magic they became slaves and servants of the draken spellweavers who completely turned them into loyal and obedient drones without any own ambition. With brutish force, they usually attack anything that does not belong to the place they are bound to. If their wild rage is triggered, they become berserking behemoths of destruction.

Nonetheless, draken are characterised by power and competence, known for their merciless training and their honour. All of them use the best of their abilities to serve the dragon emperor, willing to die for making the slightest mistake. Yet only the best of the best make it into the elite of the draken society. Each of them is a one-man-army, a living weapon at the disposal of the emperor, able to wield arcane power and weapons alike, with an impressive physique as well as outstanding combat skills and spell casting abilities. Occasionally, the emperor lends some of the elite warriors to one of the dragon kings. Sometimes in times of need, sometimes as a token of respect. In any way, the elite forces handle even the most trivial duties assigned to them with precision and unwavering diligence.

5. Neutral Evaluation of Reports
By opening statement reports to the whole community, no player becomes more powerful in terms of punishments. Even if a player reports an enemy player it will not automatically have negative consequences. A report is not a guarantee for a punishment. The decision whether a punishment is appropriate or not is solely made by the customer support team.

Based on a restrained rule enforcement only those should be punished who severely violate the rules. Rest assured that it is not our aim to make conversations in Tibia more restricted in general. So give it a chance and be sure to give us feedback again in a couple of weeks after the update.

Loot, Runes and Potions

The summer update is getting closer, so it's time to give you further information on some of the changes and new features waiting for you.

With the Christmas Update 2009, we introduced new loot items as common to semi-common loot in many monsters. We will continue to spice up the monster loot with the forthcoming update by adding further loot items which are stackable and lighter than some of the heavy stuff monsters used to carry. Again, some of the heavy loot items will be replaced by new cool loot items which also yield a similar price when you sell them to NPCs. Further information on the new loot items as well as a screenshot of them can be found on our supported and promoted fansites.

In addition to new loot items, we will slightly change the way monsters drop loot. They will not drop loot in bags anymore. Instead, you will be able to see all the loot items at once when you open a dead creature body.

As we already announced several weeks ago, runes and potions will become stackable so you will gain plenty of room in your backpacks and it will be easier to arrange your runes and potions. Also, runes with a higher than usual number of charges will be transformed into glowing keepsake items which make a nice addition to any house decoration for sure.

In addition to the runes and potion changes, key rings will transform into a new container, the jewelled backpack, which will have 22 slots and weigh only 17 oz. For all the details concerning runes, potions and key rings, please have a look at the original concept we presented some time ago and the adjustments we made based on your feedback. We also explained that runes and potions will be automatically stacked in your inventory. The automatic stacking will also work for other stackable items, e.g. food you buy from NPCs, money you get from NPCs or creature products obtained by skinning a creature.

Last but not least for today's teaser, the third upgrade of our rule reporting system will be implemented. From the summer update on, players will be able to report illegal statements in party channels, guild channels, private chat channels, the default channel as well as in private messages.

All Around the World

Soon all that counts is a goal, at least for those football addicts out there. From June 11 to July 11 South Africa is going to host the World Cup 2010. All around the world people will dress in their national colours, team up with each other and watch the matches live. This is going to be an awesome time full of cheers, fears and tears.

However, please keep in mind that not everybody might share your enthusiasm, and some might actually feel annoyed if they are greeted with football mania wherever they go. As with all real life issues, we recommend you reserve discussions relating to the World Cup to the designated channels such as the RL-chat ingame or the Real Life board in the forum.

Conversely, if you come across a couple of off-topic statements like "GOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!" in the game chat, just relax and ignore them with a twinkle in your eye. That way the World Cup 2010 will become an amazing festival for all of us.

Have fun everybody!

MAGE BOMB XANTERA !

Invite a Friend and Get a Premium Bonus!

Friendship plays a major role in Tibia and playing together with friends is really amazing. We want to make that experience even sweeter for you by rewarding you for something that you are already doing: recommending Tibia to friends and getting them to start playing.

Today, we have introduced a new feature for players with a registered Tibia account. On your account management page, you can now find the button "Invite Friend" which allows you to invite someone new to Tibia by entering his email address. An email will then be sent to that address inviting the person by providing a link which leads to the Tibia account creation page. If the invited person follows that link, creates a new Tibia account and buys premium time within 90 days after the email invitation has been sent, you will get a premium bonus for having successfully recommended Tibia.

If your invited friend buys 30 days of premium time you will receive 5 days of premium time as a little gift. If your friend buys 90 or more days, you will be rewarded with 10 days of premium time.

So do not hesitate and invite your friends to Tibia. You may send up to 20 invitations within 30 days, so enough to invite lots of friends. Soon you may head out on adventures together and share precious game moments.

Happy with Tibia's Game World Types?

When the game worlds were realigned in autumn 2009, Optional, Open and Hardcore PvP worlds were born. These world types differ from each other according to their PvP gameplay possibilities. Currently, there are 3 different world types for the 77 game worlds that we have in Tibia right now. Open PvP worlds are by far the most common ones (58 worlds), followed by Optional PvP (17 worlds) and Hardcore PvP (2 worlds).

This specific distribution of world types across the various game worlds was needed in the past. But things have changed and today the distribution of world types might not meet the needs of the community any longer.

In a new developer note, we would like to know your opinion on Tibia's game world types. Do you think that 3 different game world types are enough? Do you wish for more worlds of a specific type? Or maybe just a Hardcore PvP world that is free to move to with a character world transfer? And what are your feelings about population numbers then? Do you prefer to play on worlds that are less populated than others?

We do not have any plans for changes yet since we want to hear your opinions first. Please use the template provided in the thread when you make a post. Thank you!

We are looking forward to your feedback!
